Today is one of the proudest moments in my career as our eLearning Management System (eFront LMS) is finally confirmed to be secured and can be made live to all staff (through internal and external network). Working as a front-end administrator in the education industry is the only experience I can apply and relate to LMS. When I first started embarking on the project, I thought the process would be as simple as purchasing the system and then just use it the following day. But, it was not as easy as I thought.
To my surprise, there were a lot of things that need to be considered when establishing an LMS system in the banking industry. We were not allowed to use a cloud-based system for a start, hence we had to install the system on our own ecosystem. The security aspect of the system was the main critical element to be considered where a number of penetration tests were required to be conducted to ensure the system is safe and stable for usage.
Undoubtedly, there were lots of frustrations when some of the security aspects established by the Pentester could not be met especially when from an administrator’s point of view, the functionality of the system was already perfect and ready to be used. Yes, I’m fully aware that a hacker only needs one success, out of a million attempts to hack the system, so I had to bear with the so-called “frustration”.
Besides, I got involved in the full cycle of establishing a system such as preparing the Proposal Paper, the Procurement Process, learning about IT infrastructure, back-end administration and the security aspect of the network environment in which I wholeheartedly believe will be useful for me in the future.
However, in the aspect of learning and development, only a quarter (1/4) of the work is done. Next, we need to inculcate learning culture and encourage all the staff to use the system for their training needs. We have regulatory and compliance as well as core generic courses ready in the system, but in my opinion, establishing more “fun” courses for the people to improve their skills is part of my plan, i.e. Advanced Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint/Data Mining, etc. Or maybe, we can introduce Community of Practice as an alternative form of a platform for discussion and sharing knowledge amongst the group. At the same time, multiple types of assessments can be conducted via the system as well. There are a lot of possibilities that can be explored further in the system.
Last but not least, I would like to extend my gratitude to all the people involved in the project explicitly and implicitly (you know whom I mentioned) and thank you to Josaphine, Sharon and Suresh from eLearning Minds for providing us a complete system for eLearning management and of course for their continuous and relentless support in making sure the system is safe to be used in our environment and subsequently, realized the Mobile App for the usage of the staff.
This might mean nothing and cringy to others, but for a first-timer like me, this unwavering commitment and hard work as well as achievement will be something that will be recorded in my memory forever. I expect a lot of other challenges await for me in the future, but now, I would like to cherish the moment.
